What is Parental Alienation Syndrome (PAS)? PAS---sometimes called Parental Alienation (PA)--- is a disorder that arises primarily in the context of child-custody disputes. It is primary manifestation is the child's campaign of denigration against a parent, a campaign that has no justification. It outcomes primarily from the programming (brainwashing) of a child by one of the parents, whose goal is the entire vilification of the other parent. WHAT DOES PAS LOOK LIKE? ~ The child denigrates the alienated parent with foul language and severe oppositional behavior. ~ The child offers weak, absurd, or frivolous reasons for his or her anger. ~ The child is sure of him or herself and does not demonstrate ambivalence, i.e. love and hate for the alienated parent, just hate. ~ The child exhorts that he or she alone came up with ideas of denigration. The "independent- thinker" phenomenon is where the child asserts that no one told him to carry out this. ~ The child supports and feels a must protect the alienating parent. ~ The child doesn't demonstrate guilt over cruelty towards the alienated parent. ~ The child uses borrowed scenarios, or vividly describes situations that he or she could not have experienced. ~ Animosity is spread to the buddies and/or extended family of the alienated parent. ~ In severe cases of parent alienation, the child is utterly brain- washed against the alienated parent. The alienating parent can truthfully say that the child does not desire to spend any moment amongst other parent.
~ When told that the child MUST spend time amongst other parent, the alienator typically responds, "There is not anything I'm able to do about it. She/he only does not desire to be with you." Introducing The PAS Package: 2006

AN ACTUAL CASE FROM THE FILES OF One of the saddest situations happens when a child has been bribed or manipulated into turning against one of the parents--and frequently this parent is the better of the 2 parents. An actual case from our files illustrates what we're talking about. The daughter, a bright young girl of eleven, creates havoc whenever her parent, a warm and hardworking professional, attempts to phone or pick her up for a visit. "You know I do not love to see you!" "I do not desire to talk immediately. I am busy." (The child slams the phone down.) "You are bothering us; do not call me!" (The parent, rightly, wonders who the "us" is in this statement.) And the parent frequently hears what is a sure sign of a bribed or manipulated child, words and sentences that are obviously not of the child's own creation, however rather from the bitter and vindictive other parent: "You decided to leave us. This is all your fault. You aren't entitled to share in my life anymore." Unfortunately, the majority of mothers or fathers singled out to become the victims of such vitriolic attacks are poorly equipped to manage them. They start out attempting to be calm and loving, however all too soon are worn down by the hurt, frustration and road blocks continuously thrown up when they attempt contacts amongst child. They finish up either retreating, or counter-attacking---neither of which can lead to a cheerful outcome. If you're caught up in this type of trap it's important that you gain knowledge of the four tactics which could be truly successful and useful in this situation.
